Lake Zurich hosts 33rd annual free fishing derby

Lake Zurich will host the 33rd annual fishing derby from 9 a.m. to noon on Sunday, June 15, at Paulus Park, 200 S. Rand Road (Route 12).

The derby is for ages 16 and under and is in honor of former teacher Dick Schick who ran the free community event for 24 years. All participants must register before starting to fish in one of five categories: bass, northern, panfish, walleye and muskie. Fish sizes will be determined by length and by weight if there is a tie. Participants are asked to place their catch in a plastic bag filled with water to catch and release.

Fish returned to the lake in good condition will receive a bonus length on the score.
